On Friday we received our Sun Smart accreditation. Cheryl Ford, Viv Butcher and the mayor Winston Gray all came to school to present us with a certificate, a plaque, a UV index board to let the students know the UV Index each day, sunscreen and 3 beautiful trees to plant. Thank you very much to the Cancer Society, and remember to wear your hat!

During term 3 all of the students attended a Jazz Band concert performed by students from Dunedin’s Kings and Queens Colleges, what a wonderful performance!

The Room 1 and 2 students were fortunate to make kites with Mrs Ingram. They had a lot of fun running around the field making their kites fly!

We also celebrated the opening of the Rugby World Cup with an All Blacks Day. One of our students Grandfathers was an All Black and the school children enjoyed learning about his rugby career and trying on the range of jerseys he had. Thanks to Brian Ford.

In Term 2 our focus was on sharing our learning through dance and drama. The students enjoyed a variety of opportunities throughout the term including a Drum Show and ballet lessons with the Royal New Zealand Ballet. This culminated in a Dance Extravaganza at the end of term with each class showing their learning on the theme “Whose got the Power?” Check out the photos of experiences over the term.

At St Joseph’s School we provide leadership opportunities for our senior students. Recently the Year 8 students attended the Young Leaders Day in Christchurch. The students gained a lot from this day and came back to school and shared the pearls of wisdom the learned with the rest of the students.

The Year 8 students also had the opportunity to go Tree Planting with DoC.

Along with these activities the Senior Students also organise activities for the students at St Joseph’s School such as Bike Day, special activities on mufti days and sports days.
